I think that monarchy is as good as the ruling monarch. There are good monarchs such as the late king Bumibol of Thailand as well as more unstable monarchs like Ivan The Terrible. most of the time it is unwise to concentrate all the power in the hands of one person. That is the reason why most of the countries in the world have preferred democracy. In my opinion relegating the monarch to mostly ceremonial duties is a good middle way.
